City of Rochester Online Job Interest Card

The City of Rochester, MN Fire Department firefighter entrance process is governed by a civil service board in accordance with the Rochester Fire Civil Service Rules and equal opportunity employment practices.  Entrance level firefighter positions are filled from a certified list of eligible applicants which remains in effect for not more than 2 years. Application information and test dates are advertised in advance and information distributed to interested persons on request.  

Written Examination

Candidates who have completed the Ergometrics FireTEAM examination within the last year through Chippewa Valley Technical College may provide certification of their score for inclusion in the Rochester Firefighter civil service examination process.

Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)

The Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) is a standardized test that mimics the essential and critical tasks of the job. CPAT is a timed, PASS/FAIL test. It consists of eight (8) job related tasks that are performed in a continuous sequence. Candidates must complete the course in 10 minutes and 20 seconds or less. Candidates would complete the CPAT through the Chippewa Valley Technical College Fire Service Education and Training Division.
