The City of Rochester, MN Fire Department firefighter entrance process is governed by a civil service board in accordance with the Rochester Fire Civil Service Rules and equal opportunity employment practices.  Entrance level firefighter positions are filled from a certified list of eligible applicants which remains in effect for not more than 2 years. Application information and test dates are advertised in advance and information distributed to interested persons on request.      

Physical Performance Examination

To be a firefighter you must be physically fit. The Physical Performance Examination was designed to give the department a valid method of identifying fitness levels of Firefighter candidates. The test is timed and must be completed sequentially.
